Bhopal: Congress Never Did Caste Census, Says Shivraj Singh |

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has said when the Congress was in power, it never carried out a caste census.

Chouhan made the statement at a press conference in Bhopal on Wednesday. He said Jawaharlal Nehru was opposed to reservation on the basis of caste.

He said Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi had also led governments at the centre, but they never did a caste census.

According to him, Sonia Gandhi was the super PM, but the Manmohan Singh-led government never did a caste census. Singh had assured the cabinet of considering the issue, Chouhan said.

Although the government did a caste census, it had several flaws, Chouhan said.

According to the union minister, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is working on the correct caste census to deliver social justice and launch welfare schemes.

When the Congress is in power, it does nothing, but as the opposition, it demands so many things, Chouhan said.

The vision of the Congress is to divide the society, he said.

Several things not mentioned in the manifesto are occasionally done, Chouhan said.

Nevertheless, the BJP is always opposed to giving reservation on the basis of religion, he said.
