Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): AIIMS Bhopal bids farewell to Director Prof. (Dr.) Ajai Singh after his 3-year tenure ended on Monday.
He will join as the Vice Chancellor at the Uttar Pradesh University of Medical Sciences (UPUMS), Saifai, Uttar Pradesh.
From introducing state-of-the-art medical technologies and launching patient-friendly initiatives to establishing multiple Centres of Excellence, his leadership was marked by unwavering commitment to holistic institutional growth.
Under his guidance, the PMSSY mandate of teaching, research, and patient care was successfully achieved, and AIIMS Bhopal secured its position among the top 14 institutions in the country.
These achievements have been thoughtfully documented in the coffee table book titled "Beyond Medicine: The AIIMS Bhopal Story 2022–2025." During this period, the OPD footfall increased by over 134%, rising from 6.06 lakh in 2022 to 14.20 lakh in 2024, indicating enhanced healthcare accessibility. IPD admissions rose by 59.3%, reflecting an improvement in inpatient care services.
Surgical procedures witnessed a 303% increase, and major surgeries went up by 37.3%—a result of expanded and digitized operating theatres. The Trauma and Emergency Department saw a 133% rise in patient numbers, supported by the availability of 24×7 services, senior doctors on the floor, and streamlined digital bed management. Laboratory investigations increased by 91%, and radiological investigations grew by 66% with the addition of advanced diagnostic technologies.
A major stride in patient convenience was the digitization of services through the AIIMS Swasthya App, enabling over 15 lakh QR-based registrations and more than 5.45 lakh ABHA linkages. For the first time in Central India, robotic surgery and 3D-print-assisted procedures were successfully performed at AIIMS Bhopal.
Transplant services, including cardiac, kidney, cornea, and bone marrow transplants, were also launched.
The institute initiated over 106 special clinics such as Transgender, Adolescent, Geriatric, and Infertility Clinics, contributing to a 416% increase in OPD visits. New services like bone, skin, and milk banks were started to ensure comprehensive care.
