Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): 775 loco pilots were given practical training in 2024–25 to control trains under real conditions such as fog, haze, fire, jerk, lurk, IBH failure, loop line speed, hot axle, etc., using the modern loco simulator installed in the Bhopal Division.

The Bhopal Division, through its Traction Rolling Operations (TRO) department, is making several safety-oriented efforts for such employees to ensure the safety and punctuality of rail passengers.

The impact of this training was evident, with zero SPAD (Signal Passed at Danger) incidents and no serious incidents like load parting. Improvements were also observed in behaviors such as RS valve operation and signal calling by Assistant Loco Pilots (ALPs).

In addition, the running staff was made aware of railway safety, precautions, and emergency procedures through five street plays.

Refresher courses have been started at DTC/Itarsi in the division from the year 2024–25, eliminating the need to send loco pilots to other divisions. So far, 90 loco pilots have received training under this course.

Furthermore, regular monitoring, guidance, and review of safety protocols for the running staff are being conducted by 54 CLIs (Crew Loco Inspectors).

Many examples of potential accidents being averted in time have come to light due to the alertness of the loco pilots working in the division. Timely braking, proper signal recognition, and reporting of irregularities have played a crucial role in ensuring passenger safety.

Safety-oriented training, mental and family support, and coordination of workplace facilities are making the running staff more efficient, alert, and effective in the field. This is a decisive step towards ensuring a safe and smooth journey for passengers.
