Col Voronych was in charge of Ukraine's security service's 16th department's 1st division, reported NDTV, citing local media reports. This division is involved in several missions, including security missions and counter-terrorism operations.
"With five shots at close range while leaving the apartment today at 8 am, the enemy killer did his dirty work," Roman Chervinsky, a former Ukrainian intelligence officer, told The Telegraph.
A detailed investigation has been launched into the matter. Col Voronych was killed almost three months after a senior Russian military general, Yaroslav Maskalik, died in a car explosion. Maskalik died a day after Russia's deadly drone attack on Ukraine.
