Islamabad: Amid Pakistan’s ongoing economic turmoil, Field Marshal and Army Chief General Asim Munir is set to embark on a lavish diplomatic visit to neighbouring Sri Lanka from 20–23 July.
Munir’s trip will feature a range of high-end amenities, including a special aircraft, ceremonial bike escorts, luxury city tours, and multiple helicopter rides, according to a report by News18.
Reportedly, some of the privileges extended to Munir during the visit surpass those banned for Pakistan’s cabinet ministers, who are often denied such perks in efforts to cut costs.
Munir is expected to stay at one of Colombo’s most expensive luxury hotels during his visit.
His trip follows the visit of then-Prime Minister Imran Khan in 2021 and prior to that, Nawaz Sharif's visit to Sri Lanka in 2016 during his tenure as Prime Minister.
