'This Is Not Acceptable Behaviour,' Canada Police Issues Statement On Recent Racist Attack On Indian Couple After Video Goes Viral

An Indian couple in Canada faced an unreasonable racist attack by a group of teenagers at the Lansdowne Place Mall parking lot. The couple remained silent through the attack and simply recorded the whole scene, which shows a teenager making lewd gestures and racist abuse at the couple. The now viral video has prompted swift police action, and they have arrested the accused based on the available evidence.
Reportedly, the incident happened on July 29, 2025, while officers began an investigation into the incident on Friday, August 8. Reportedly, the investigation included viewing videos, some of which were circulating on social media, and that included hate-based language.

Legal Action:
As a result of the investigation and following consultation with the Crown Attorney's office, the Peterborough Police Service arrested the 18-year-old accused from the City of Kawartha Lakes, and he has been charged with: Utter threats - Cause Death or Bodily Harm, as reported by Peterborough Police Service in an official statement.
Statment By Police
Chief Stuart Betts, Peterborough Police Service, said, "Anybody who has seen the video in this case will understand that that type of behaviour is not acceptable in our community, nor any community. I would like to thank everyone who came forward with information in connection with this incident."

He further adds, "Clearly, this is not the standard of acceptable behaviour in our city. We encourage residents to continue to report hate bias incidents/crimes that take place in our community. Reporting these incidents to the police is crucial to ensuring we have the information needed to investigate and pursue charges when appropriate. We are committed to keeping our community safe for everyone who lives, works, or visits here."
According to the statement, the accused has been released on an undertaking and will appear in court on September 16, 2025.
