Here's Why iPhone 17 Series Price Won’t Change Despite Donald Trump’s 25% Tariff On India
Apple's push for making India an export hub for iPhones has likely not gone down well with US President Donald Trump, who thinks that Apple should only be expanding its operations in India to sell phones in the Indian market. However, over 70 percent of the iPhones sold in the US are of Indian origin.

Apple has been doubling down on its efforts to make India a major production hub for its iPhones. However, US President Donald Trump's 25 percent tariff may become a huge hurdle in the company's plans fo India. However, Apple's upcoming iPhone 17 series is unlikely to see a price hike and is largely expected to be unaffected through the whole tariff ordeal. The key reason: electronics, including smartphones, are currently exempt from the proposed tax.
The tech giants push for more production in India has likely not gone down well with Trump who thinks that Apple should only be expanding its operations in India to sell phones in the Indian market. However, over 70 percent of the iPhones sold in the US are of Indian origin.
Analysts predict that while the new tarifff will certainly affect Apple's plans to make India the next iPhone export hub for the US, but it is unlikley to bring any changes to the price point of the iPhone 17 range. The next-gen iPhones are slated to launch next month, and currently all smartphone exports are exempted from the newly proposed tax.
In April this year, the US exempted smartphones, computers and other electronics from reciprocal tariffs. However, the Trump administration could change these rules any time, and remove these exemptions altogether. How this impacts iPhone prices and Apple's plans to make India a manufacturing hub remains to be seen. If things go southwards, then it could potentially mean that producing iPhones in India may become costlier than what it is currently.
