Mumbai: Indian men's cricket team captain Rohit Sharma lost his cool during a press conference when a reporter asked a question about the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI’s) 10-point guideline regarding restrictions on family members accompanying men's cricketers on tours. The press briefing was held in Mumbai to announce squads for the Champions Trophy 2025 and the upcoming one-day international (ODI) series.
When asked to share his views about the 10-point guideline going viral on social media, the team India skipper snapped at the reporter and asked him to wait for the official confirmation.
Video Of The Entire Press Briefing:
“Who has told you about these rules? Has it come from the official handle? Let it come, and we will talk," Sharma said. Meanwhile, before the start of the press briefing, Sharma could be seen having a conversation with men's selection committee chairman Ajit Agarkar about the new guidelines. The footage of the conversation soon went viral on social media.
Rohit Sharma's Conversation With Ajit Agarkar:
“Ab mere ko baithna padega secretary ke saath. Family, wamily ka discuss karne ke liye, sab mere ko bol rahe hai yaar (Now I will have to sit with the secretary to discuss family, family matters, everyone is telling me about this]," the Team India skipper was heard saying to Agarkar in the viral clip.
The new 10-point guideline released by the BCCI after India’s defeat in the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) in Australia, set strict limitations on the family members travelling with men’s cricketers on tours, claimed media reports. As Per the 10-point guideline, players have to play domestic cricket to be considered for the national team. They will also be not allowed to travel with personal cooks or hairdressers during tours.
Agarkar on Saturday announced the squads from the England ODI series and Champions Trophy. Rohit Sharma (c), Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill (vc), Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Arshdeep Singh, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rishabh Pant, Ravindra Jadeja, and Harshit Rana. Notably, Rana is selected for only the England series.
