As the cricketing spotlight remains fixed on the ongoing ENG vs IND 1st Test in Headingley, an off-field controversy has drawn unexpected attention involving Indian batter Karun Nair’s wife, Sanaya Tankariwala. Sanaya took to Instagram to slam news outlet Zee News for falsely reporting that she had converted to Hinduism in order to marry the cricketer.
In a strong and straightforward Instagram story, Sanaya expressed her displeasure, calling out the outlet for misinformation. Her post read, “Sorry what? Proud Parsi till I die. @zeenews please verify before writing trash. And please either take this down or correct it.”

The now-viral rebuttal came after Zee News published a story claiming that Sanaya, who was born into a Parsi family, embraced Hinduism before marrying Karun Nair. The article further claimed that their wedding in Udaipur featured a fusion of Parsi and Malayalee traditions. While the latter part about the wedding's cultural blend may hold some truth, the assertion about a religious conversion was flatly denied by Sanaya.
Sanaya’s firm response reflects her intent to protect her personal identity and heritage from being misrepresented in public media.
ENG Vs IND, 1st Test: Karun Nair's Comeback Cut Short As He Departs For A Duck; Video
India's middle-order batsman Karun Nair endured a forgettable return to Test cricket as he was dismissed for a duck off just 4 balls by England captain Ben Stokes during the first Test at Headingley. The right-hander was sent back early in his innings while attempting a cover drive that ended up costing him his wicket.
Coming in at a tense moment with India looking to build on a solid platform, Nair’s stay at the crease was short-lived. On just the fourth ball he faced, he leaned into a full delivery outside off, attempting one of his trademark cover drives. However, the execution fell short.
Stokes, leading by example once again, added to his already impressive spell with this dismissal, keeping England in the fight against a strong Indian batting order. As the match progresses, questions may arise about Nair’s role in the side, but for now, it’s a moment he’ll want to move past quickly.
