Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain MS Dhoni flexed his captaincy brilliance during the five-time champions' final match of IPL 2025 on Sunday at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. With Gujarat Titans' opening duo of Shubman Gill and B Sai Sudharsan known to be scoring runs at will, Dhoni's field perfect field placement at slip brought the downfall of the former.

The dismissal of Gill occurred in the third over of the innings sent down by left-arm seamer Anshul Kamboj. With the Titans' captain stepping down to hit another big shot after chalking out six runs in the previous delivery, the ball held its line to surprise Gill, whose bat only managed a thick edge to fly to Urvil Patel at slip. Patel took the catch comfortably and Gill had to walk back for 13 off 9 deliveries, giving the Titans an early jolt.

Gill's early dismissal significantly dented the Titans' chances of chasing down 231 and finish the league stage at the top of the points table. Earlier, fifties from Dewald Brevis and Devon Conway propelled the Super Kings to a mammoth 230 in 20 overs.
