IND vs PAK, Asia Cup 2023 Super 4 LIVE: Kuldeep Takes 5 Wickets As India Crush Pakistan By 228 Runs In Colombo
IND vs PAK, Asia Cup 2023 Super 4: Fans will be praying to the weather gods for no rain in Colombo on Monday as India and Pakistan Super 4 clash moves to reserve day
FPJ Web Desk Updated: Monday, September 11, 2023, 11:11 PM IST

Hello & Welcome to our Live Blog of the highly-anticipated Asia Cup 2023 Super 4 clash between India and Pakistan.
All the talk in the lead up to this blockbuster clash has been about the weather in the Sri Lankan capital as rain is expected to play spoilsport once again. The Asian Cricket Council has even decided to have a one-off Reserve Day for this match but the prediction on Monday (Sept 10) is also not encouraging.
The high-voltage clash between India and Pakistan returns in less than 24 hours as both teams will lock horns in the Super 4 round of the Asia Cup 2023 at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
Meanwhile, fans are sharing memes on the scenes from tomorrow's match with rain as the real player between India and Pakistan
It's worth noting that Virat Kohli has an outstanding ODI record at the R.Premadasa Stadium. Kohli averages 103.80 in 8 ODIs at the venue and his last 3 scores are 110*, 131, 128*.
The most interesting match-up will be that of Shaheen Shah Afridi against Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, given the left-arm seamer dismissed the pair cheaply in Kandy.
Equally interesting will be how the Pakistan batters go against Jasprit Bumrah and co. India could not get a crack at Pakistan's line-up in Kandy despite setting them a competitive 266 to win.
As far as other teams in Asia Cup 2023 go, Sri Lanka pushed Bangladesh into the back foot as they started their Super 4 with a win on Saturday
If weather permits and Rohit Sharma scores 78 runs, he will become the 15th player to score 10000 runs in ODIs. He will also become the 6th Indian batter to achieve the feat.
Meanwhile, the 2nd ODI between Australia and South Africa on Saturday had one significant consequence as Pakistan were dethroned as the No.1 ODI team. Australia edged ahead in the rankings with a massive 123-run win
However, the rankings could see some major shuffles in the coming days, given plenty of ODIs are lined up
India and Pakistan have faced each other twice in Colombo in ODIs. The game in 1997 ended as no result, while Pakistan won by 59 runs in 2004 Asia Cup
While Pakistan have announced their playing XI, it will be interesting whether India bring back KL Rahul though it will be a harsh call to keep Ishan Kishan out of the game. However, Mohammed Shami looks most likely to make way for Jasprit Bumrah, who missed the game against Nepal
This already looms as a must-win game for India because a loss will put them in a dangerous territory
History says India and Pakistan have never met in an Asia Cup final and Sri Lanka's win over Bangladesh have made them slight favourites to reach the summit clash again
India playing XI: Rohit Sharma(c), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Ishan Kishan(wk), Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj
Pakistan playing XI: Fakhar Zaman, Imam-ul-Haq, Babar Azam(c), Mohammad Rizwan(wk), Agha Salman, Iftikhar Ahmed, Shadab Khan, Faheem Ashraf, Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah, Haris Rauf
Rohit Sharma opens his account with a maximum as he flicks one towards the backward square leg region off Shaheen Shah Afridi's bowling
Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill are dealing in boundaries in Colombo. Both have hit two fours each so far as India race to 27/0 in 3 Overs.
Pakistan lose a review thanks to a horrendous decision by skipper Babar Azam. Rohit Sharma came down the track to try and hit a six against Naseem Shah but missed the ball. Mohd Rizwan caught the ball behind the stumps and immediately appealed for caught-behind. There was no sound on the snicko which confirmed the on-field umpire's decision.
Rohit Sharma's SIX against Shaheen Afridi is the first instance of the Pakistani pacer getting hit over the ropes in the first over of an ODI match
Shubman Gill scores his 8th ODI fifty off 37 balls with 10 fours after Haris Rauf concedes 8 runs from his first over. India 80/0 (12.3 overs)
100-run partnership comes up between Shubman Gill (52*) & Rohit Sharma (44*) thanks to five wides conceded by Haris Rauf. India 103/0 in 14 overs
Rohit Sharma gets his 50th ODI fifty off 42 balls. India 109/0 (14.1 overs)
WICKET! Rohit Sharma c Faheem Ashraf b Shadab Khan 56 (49 balls). India 121/1 in 16.4 ovs
WICKET! Shubman Gill c Agha Salman b Shaheen Afridi 58 (52 balls). India 123/2 (17.5 overs)
Good passage of play this for Pakistan as both Virat Kohli and KL Rahul are new to the crease and trying to get a feel of the pitch. India 137/2 (21 overs)
Rauf to Rahul, FOUR! KL Rahul completes 2000 ODI runs with his second boundary of the innings. India 145/2 (23.3 overs)
Heavy rain stops play In Colombo. Looks like this break is going to be a long one as it is literally pouring down now. India 147/2 (24.1 Overs) Rahul17*, Kohli 8*
Massive puddles of water have formed on the outfield already. The entire ground has been covered as it continues to pour down in Colombo.
If no more play is possible today then the match will restart from the position it was abandoned today. That means India will resume from 147 for 2 in 24.1 overs with KL Rahul (17*) and Virat Kohli (8*) on strike.
Rain seems to have completely stopped in Colombo and the covers are being taken off one by one at the R Premadasa Stadium. But resumption will still take a lot of time as there are massive puddles of water on the outfield.
The match has started to lose overs now. The cut-off time was 6.22 pm. If the rain stops and there is any play possible today then it will be a shortened game.
The second inspection is over. Another one will take place at 8.30pm as there are still some areas of concern on the outfield.
The rain is back in Colombo and absolutely pelting down now. The ground is being covered again. The cut-off time for a 20--over game is 10.36 pm.
So the match has been officially called off for today. It will resume on Reserve Day (Sept 11) with India 147/2 in 24.1 overs
That's it from us tonight. Join us again tomorrow for the resumption of the India vs Pakistan Super 4 clash. Goodnight
While most of the focus is on the weather conditions in Colombo, eyes are also on Virat Kohli. Kohli has interestingly started slowly, while KL Rahul, at the other end, has shown some calculated aggression
The resumption on the reserve day could be the best thing to happen to Pakistan as their bowlers could re calibrate their plans after a tough day on Sunday
As per the current forecast, there are 90% chances of precipitation in the afternoon and 80% in the evening
Should we get the full match today, it will be a very short turnaround time for India as they are scheduled to face Sri Lanka on Tuesday
The elusive mark of 13000 ODI runs also await Virat Kohli and needs 90 more to reach the landmark
Pakistan's only chance of restricting India is to pick wickets. Anything above 250 could prove to be a very stiff run-chase for Babar Azam's men
The groundstaff have once again started to peel off the covers one by one. But they are treading cautiously as the conditions are still overcast.
No rain as of now in Colombo therefore, the umpires have scheduled an inspection at 4.20 pm
India and Pakistan players are finally out on the ground to practice a bit before the resumption of play which is looking likely now as the rain has stopped in Colombo
Good News! The match will restart at 4.40 pm if there is no more rain in Colombo. No overs have been lost till now so India will resume their innings at 147.2 (24.1 overs)
Big blow for Pakistan as fast bowler Haris Rauf won't be bowling today as a precautionary measure. Rauf won't even take the field vs India due to a suspected side strain.
Match resumes on the reserve day with KL Rahul on strike against Shadab Khan, who has five balls left in the 25th over.
Pakistan bowling coach Morne Morkel: "He (Haris Rauf) started feeling his oblique muscle last night. He had a scan and it revealed some inflammation. With the World Cup round the corner, it is precautionary and we'll have to use the other boys to fill the overs."
Both KL Rahul (21*) and Virat Kohli (12*) are batting cautiously at the moment, probably just to assess the conditions before they can start to attack the bowlers. India 155/2 (27 ovs)
Pakistan lose their second and final review due to yet another blunder from Mohammad Rizwan. Naseem Shah bowled one down the leg side which Virat Kohli looked to flick but missed. There was a noise as the ball passed the batter. Rizwan caught the ball and appealed for a caught-behind. He convinced Babar Azam to take the review and the Pak captain obliged. But replays showed that the ball missed the bat by a huge margin and brushed the thigh pad on its way to the wicketkeeper.
50-run partnership comes up between KL Rahul (30*) & Virat Kohli (21*). India 173/2 (29.4 ovs)
KL Rahul brings up his 14th ODI fifty off 60 balls! The 100-run partnership has also come up between Rahul (63*) and Virat Kohli (40) India 225/2 (35 overs)
Virat Kohli brings up his 66th ODI fifty off 55 balls. This is only the fourth time in ODI history that India's top 4 batters have scored half-centuries. India 239/2 (38.3 overs)
KL Rahul is struggling a bit to get going, he's scored just 9 runs in his last 15 deliveries.
Iftikhar to Kohli, FOUR! The 150-run partnership comes up between Virat (76*) and KL Rahul (82*). India 280/2 in 43 overs
300 up for India in 45 overs with Virat Kohli on 83* and KL Rahul on 95*. Kohli and Rahul have also completed 1000 runs as a pair in ODIs.
KL Rahul Hits 6th ODI Hundred Off 100 Balls; India 319/2 (47 Overs)
Virat Kohli Hits 47th Hundred, Becomes Fastest Batter To 13,000 ODI Runs
Faheem Ashraf concedes 18 runs in the final over as India post 356/2 in 50 overs. Virat Kohli (122*) & KL Rahul (111*) shared a 233-run unbroken partnership for the third wicket in just 194 balls.
Pakistan begin the run chase in Colombo with Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj starting the proceedings for Team India with the new ball.
No team has successfully chased 325+ in Sri Lanka. In fact no team has chased more than 301 at this ground in Colombo
WICKET! Imam-ul-Haq c Gill b Bumrah 9 (18 balls). Pakistan 17/1 (4.2 overs) vs India (356/2)
WICKET! Babar Azam b Hardik Pandya 10 (24 balls). Brings the ball back in to find the gap between bat and pad. Pakistan 43/2 (10.4 ovs) vs India (356/2)
Rain stops play again in Colombo. It's not very heavy right now and caught everyone by surprise. Let's hope play resumes quickly and these are just passing showers. Pakistan 44/2 In 11 Overs vs India (356/2)
Pakistan's revised target will be 200 in 20 overs if the match gets reduced. However, the DLS par-score for a minimum 20-over game is 140 if the match restarts.
The rain has stopped and covers are coming off at the R Premadasa stadium. The umpires will conduct their inspection shortly. Pakistan 44/2 In 11 Overs vs India (356/2)
It's drizzling again in Colombo hence, the covers are coming back on the field. Looks like another long delay is on the cards
Good News! The match will restart at 9.20 pm with the full quota of overs still available for Pakistan to chase 357 in Colombo.
Play Resumes After Brief Rain Break In Colombo, No Overs Lost; Pakistan 44/2 (11 Ovs) In 357 Chase
WICKET! Mohammad Rizwan c Rahul b Thakur 2 (5 balls). Pakistan 47/3 (11.4 overs) vs India (356/2)
WICKET! Fakhar Zaman b Kuldeep Yadav 27 (50 Balls). Pakistan 77/4 (19.2 overs) vs India (356/2)
This match will definitely have a result now even if no more play is possible due to the rain. Pakistan 79/4 (20 overs) are 121 runs behind the DLS par score
OUCH! Pakistan batter Agha Salman escaped a career-threatening injury as ball hits his face after he tried to play a sweep shot against off-spinner Ravindra Jadeja.
