Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has been granted conditional bail after being formally charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault. The 32-year-old appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Tuesday to face the serious allegations, which involve three different women.

According to court proceedings, the charges stem from alleged incidents that occurred between 2021 and 2022, during the period when Partey was actively playing for the Premier League club Arsenal. The prosecution outlined that the five rape charges relate to two women, while the sexual assault charge involves a third woman.

As part of the bail conditions set by the court, Partey has been prohibited from contacting any of the three complainants. Additionally, he must inform law enforcement of any permanent changes to his residential address or intentions to travel abroad.

Partey's legal representative, Jenny Wiltshire, reaffirmed the player's stance, stating that he "denies all the charges against him" and is looking forward to the legal process. "He welcomes the opportunity to finally clear his name," Wiltshire said.

The case is expected to move to the next stage of legal proceedings in the coming months, as Partey remains out on conditional bail.

Former Arsenal Midfielder Thomas Partey Charged With Multiple Rape & Sexual Assault Offences

Former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has been officially charged by the Metropolitan Police Service with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault, according to a statement released on Friday, July 4, 2025. The charges come after a long-running investigation and involve three different women, with incidents allegedly occurring between 2021 and 2022.

Partey, 32, whose contract with Arsenal recently expired, is now a free agent. He is expected to appear before the Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, August 5 to face the charges formally. The police stated that the investigation began in February 2022 after they received the first complaint, and they have since compiled evidence against the Ghanaian international.

A statement published on the official website of the Metropolitan Police read: “The Crown Prosecution Service has authorised the Metropolitan Police Service to charge a man after a file of evidence was submitted by detectives.”

The detailed charges are as follows:

Two counts of rape involving the first woman

Three counts of rape involving a second woman

One count of sexual assault involving a third woman

All the alleged offences are reported to have taken place over a one-year period, and the case has drawn significant public and media attention. Although Partey was first arrested in July 2022, his identity was not made public at that time. He continued to play for Arsenal, making 52 appearances during the 2024–25 season, even as investigations were ongoing.

Thomas Partey was signed by Arsenal in October 2020 from Atletico Madrid for a reported fee of €50 million, and was considered a key figure in the club’s midfield during his time in the Premier League. His recent exit from the club came as his contract ran out earlier this summer.

The serious nature of the charges has now shifted attention from his football career to the upcoming court proceedings. Further updates are expected as the legal process unfolds.
