Team India and England players were seen wearing black armbands on day five of the opening Test at the Headingley in Leeds. With ex-Indian cricketer Dilip Doshi passing away due to a sudden cardiac arrest, not only did players wore black armbands but also observed a moment's silence before the start of play.
Doshi, 77, played 33 Tests and 15 ODIs from 1979 to 1983, picking up 136 scalps collectively. The late cricketer also played a staggering 238 first-class wickets and took 898 scalps at 26.58. As far as Tests go, his 112 scalps came at 30.71 alongside six five-fors.
Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley remain intact as Team India fail to pick up a wicket in first half an hour of day 5
Meanwhile, England openers Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley have made a promising start to the run-chase of 371. The pair had begun at 21/0 from six overs, surviving testing spells from Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj.
England have been set a daunting 371 to chase down after scintillating centuries from Rishabh Pant and Harry Brook. Josh Tongue and Harry Brook picked up three scalps each. Although Jasprit Bumrah dismissed Zak Crawley in the opening over in the first innings, he survived six overs from India's new-ball bowlers late on day four.
Although the hosts had chased 378 in 2022 at the Edgbaston in Birmingham, they face a tricky task on a surface offering uneven bounce.
