Gujarat Titans' openers Shubman Gill and B Sai Sudharsan blew away the Delhi Capitals as they won by ten wickets on Sunday at the Arun Jaitley Stadium to seal their spot in the playoffs. The openers stayed unbeaten, making KL Rahul's unbeaten 112 a mere footnote with their comprehensive victory.
Despite the dew reportedly not appearing at the venue and the ground remaining dry, the Capitals' attack looked quite toothless on the night. However, it would be cruel to discredit Gill and Sudharsan, establishing himself as the best opening partnership of the season as they looked in control almost at all times.
The first over itself from the Capitals went for 11, while left-arm seamer T Natarajan leaked 20 runs in the second, giving the Titans an excellent head start. The Capitals had exhausted one review in the seventh over sent down by Vipraj Nigam against Sai Sudharsan. Sai Sudharsan got lucky in the next over too as the lbw review was merely clipping the leg stump. Sudharsan reached his half-century in the ninth over off only 30 balls, while Gill did so in the 13th over only off 33 deliveries.
Sudharsan got to his well-deserved hundred in the 18th over off Kuldeep Yadav's bowling with a maximum. Eventually, the 23-year-old finished unbeaten on 108, while Gill remained unbeaten on 93 to chase 200 in a canter.
Shubman Gill had earlier won the toss and elected to field first
Earlier, the toss at the Arun Jaitley Stadium went in favour of theTitans as Shubman Gill won the toss and elected to field first against the Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Sunday. Both sides have made changes, with the Titans bringing back Kagiso Rabada for Gerald Coetzee. Meanwhile, the Capitals have drafted Vipraj Nigam and Mustafizur Rahman for Madhav Tiwari and Mitchell Starc, respectively.
Rahul led an outstanding recovery from the Capitals after being 19/1 in the first four overs. There were also contributions from Abhishek Porel (30), Axar Patel (25), and Tristan Stubbs (21*) also made useful contributions to the cause. However, it took only 19 overs for the Titans to chase 200.
Along with the Titans, Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru have also qualified for the playoffs, with 17 points each.
