Satara: As the Independence Day approaches, many government and private establishments celebrate and honour our freedom fighters by decorating their premises with Indian flag colours. In the same way, Koyna Dam, which quenches the thirst of the majority of Western Maharashtra has done this too. Situated in Maharashtra's Satara District, this dam is one of the biggest in India.
In the videos and photos received by the Free Press Journal, it can be seen that the decoration of the Koyna Dam is done with beautiful lights in combinations of India's national flag, the Tiranga. The use of saffron, white, and green lights is done in such a way that it is really a treat to the eyes.
Also, photos of famous historical places in Maharashtra, mainly forts built or captured by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, are on display.

Koyna Dam, situated in the Western Ghats along the state highway between Chiplun and Karad, is a famous tourist destination. With a wildlife sanctuary covering the dam area, many people visit it.
It is a rubble concrete gravity dam with 103.2 m of height and a catchment area of 869.78 sq km. Its hydroelectric capacity is 1,920–1,960 MW, making it the largest completed hydroelectric power plant in India.
Koyna also has a huge capacity of 105.25 TMC, making it vitally important both for electricity in Satara, Sangli, Kolhapur, and Solapur districts of Western Maharashtra. Built in 1964, the dam serves as a vital infrastructure for Maharashtra.
Their celebration this Independence Day just reinstates the commitment and respect the whole establishment holds. The decoration will be in place for four more days; that is, even after Independence Day on August 15, it will still have decorations for two additional days.
