Gadkari had instructed the PMC to consider changing the flyover’s design to at least a double-deck.
Social media abuzz with speculations
However, the PMC went ahead with the construction of a single-layer flyover. Part of this flyover was opened on May 1, after which several netizens took to social media to highlight the flaw in the planning.
There seemed to be a lot of confusion among Punekars about the project, with many criticising the civic body and saying that the road will be in a mess again during the metro construction. Some even pointed towards the possible demolition by PMC.
Rohan Joshi, an IT professional, said, "I don't understand why there is a lack of communication between PMC and Pune Metro. Discussions are going on that soon the metro work will start and they will break some segments of the bridge as it is not aligned with the Pune Metro project. I don't know how true it is but it's concerning because if they break the bridge, a lot of money will be wasted."
Another resident took to social media platform X and said, "How Sinhagad Road would have looked if they had planned the flyover properly. Double-decker flyover + metro stations as well," and he posted a picture of a double-decker flyover from Nagpur.

Meanwhile, to clarify the issue with the civic body, FPJ spoke with a civic official who resolved the confusion, stating that the bridge will not be dismantled. He added that the project is indeed in line with future construction but is disintegrated from the Pune Metro project.
Executive Engineer of PMC, Sandeep Patil, said, "We have planned the flyover keeping in mind the proposed metro route in the area. We have put markings on the bridge and the Reinforced Cement Concrete (RCC) pillars are ready, and they will be placed where the marks have been made. The pillars are lying underneath the bridge. And our project is in disintegration with the metro project. It has been very well planned."
