Two days after Punekars faced huge traffic snarls on Sinhagad Road — a 6 km jam leading to at least 3 hours of delays — The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) project department took the matter seriously and issued a show-cause notice to the contractor.

The commuters were still fuming over the unannounced closure of Rajaram Bridge on Monday. The sudden shutdown left many stranded in long queues, sparking chaos and frustration.

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) project department took the matter seriously and issued a show-cause notice to the contractor on Wednesday, asking who was responsible for the traffic jam. The contractor has been given three days to respond, said an official.

After a formal complaint was filed with PMC authorities, the civic body clarified that no permission had been granted for the full closure of Rajaram Bridge.

No information to PMC

According to the complaint, the contractor closed the road and began work, causing citizens to remain stuck in traffic for three to four hours. Reports state that the contractor had been hired by the PMC to conduct a structural audit of the bridge, which was built years ago.

While the civic body had granted permission for extension joint work on the bridge, the contractor also secured clearance from the traffic police. However, the bridge from Sinhagad Road to Karve Road was shut down at 8AM on Monday (April 28) without informing the PMC project department or the police. This triggered a massive traffic jam in the area, leaving thousands of vehicles stranded on Sinhagad Road. Videos of the gridlock quickly went viral on social media.
