Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar made a major announcement on Thursday. Speaking at an event, he said that Pune will get three new municipal corporations. The first one will be for Hinjawadi and the surrounding area, the second for Chakan and its neighbouring places and the third for areas like Wagholi, Manjri, Loni Kalbhor, Phurungi and Uruli Devachi. Pawar said he would speak with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and finalise this decision.
"Unless municipal corporations are formed, these areas won't get surplus funds to make broad roads, storm water drainage systems, etc.," Pawar said. "Decisions have to be taken according to time. In Mumbai too, there are many municipal corporations – Thane, Navi Mumbai, Kalyan-Dombivli, Mira-Bhayandar, Vasai-Virar and Ulhasnagar. Similarly, in Pune too, we will have to take a similar decision," he added.
Pawar also reviewed several ongoing development projects in the Moshi area of Pimpri-Chinchwad.
He visited Pimpri-Chinchwad and met local authorities to discuss progress. His visit came after he announced on July 29 that the state government had approved the setting up of District and Additional Sessions Courts, along with a Senior Civil Court, in Pimpri-Chinchwad.
He also visited Chakan, where he inspected traffic congestion issues.
Sharing details on X (formerly Twitter), the Deputy Chief Minister wrote, "In response to the severe traffic congestion issue faced by residents and employees in Chakan and the MIDC area of Pune district, an inspection was conducted today at various locations in Chakan. During this inspection, discussions were held with the District Collector, Police Commissioner, and relevant officials. The main reasons for the traffic congestion were identified, and clear instructions were given to the officials to implement immediate solutions."
