Pune social media is abuzz this morning with posts suggesting that Infosys co-founder Narayana Murthy reportedly made an appearance at Roopali restaurant this morning.

Writer Shilpa Godbole took to X and wrote, "A sansaneet batmi is circulating in Pune's social circles: Narayana Murthy supposedly made an appearance at Roopali restaurant this morning. But c’mon! If the Infosys co-founder was really there, wouldn't he have already tweeted a photo with Pune's Twitter elite, who (ahem) just..."

When the Free Press Journal team called up the Roopali restaurant, they declined to give an official quote but did confirm that the tech giant did visit the restaurant on Sunday morning.

Roopali restaurant on FC Road

For the uninitiated, Roopali restaurant on FC Road in Pune is known for its South Indian menu. Interestingly, Roopali started off as Madras Café way back in 1968. Over the years, as it prospered, it changed to its present name. The place is famous among Punekars, including several actors from the Marathi industry, theater actors, local politicians, academics, and students.

Whom did he meet?

While Godbole wondered whom the industry giant met, Amit Paranjape, a technology entrepreneur based in Pune, made it clear that he did not meet Murthy.

Taking to X, he wrote, "Yes, I was at Roopali for a coffee this morning. And no, I didn't meet the famous tech industry celebrity who was spotted there by many... earlier today. On a related note - some staff at these popular Udupi restaurants work very hard... More than 70 hours a week."

For the unaware, last year, Murthy had stirred up a fierce debate on social media by suggesting young Indians should work 70 hours a week earlier last year.

Did you know that in 1981, Narayana Murthy and six other co-founders launched Infosys?

Founded in 1981, Infosys began its journey with an initial investment of Rs 10,000 from Sudha Murty, Narayana Murthy's wife, who has recently taken on the role of a Rajya Sabha member.

Except for Ashok Arora, who left the software services exporter in 1989 to settle in the US, every co-founder has achieved billionaire status since then.
