A 33-year-old traffic constable sustained a critical head injury on Wednesday night, allegedly struck by a cement block wielded by a serving army jawan, leading to an attempted murder charge filed at the Faraskhana police station.
Police authorities revealed that around one-and-a-half months ago, the traffic constable, identified as Ramesh Dhaware, had issued a challan to the 25-year-old army jawan for triple riding on a bike. This incident created a grudge against the constable, according to law enforcement officials.
The accused, Vaibhav Sambhaji Mangute, a native of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district currently serving in an army unit in Jodhpur, was apprehended following the attack at Budhwar Chowk near Shreemant Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati Mandir around 7pm on Wednesday.
After the attack, Dhaware was initially transported to a nearby private hospital and subsequently transferred to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of another private hospital, where he remains unconscious and in critical condition.
Mangute, meanwhile, faces charges under sections 307 (attempt to murder), 333 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt to deter a public servant from his duty), and 353 (obstructing a public servant from discharging official duty) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
