Youth drowned just a day ago
Just a day before the tragic incident that claimed the lives of two girls at Khadakwasla Dam, another unfortunate event unfolded on May 14. Zubair Ismail Shaikh (28), a resident of Bhawani Peth, Pune, drowned while swimming in the canal on the backside of the dam.
It was only recently that the authorities took a decisive step to address mounting concerns surrounding water pollution and unruly behaviour at Khadakwasla Dam Chowpatty. However, the currents of fate seem unyielding, for mishaps continue to unfold.
500 rupees fine for entering the dam
The dam is a popular destination for tourists during holidays, leading to incidents of water pollution and risky behaviour.
In response to these issues, a comprehensive joint inspection was carried out by the police, irrigation, public works, and forest departments. As a result, a ban on entering the water has been enforced to preserve the water quality and ensure the safety of the public. To ensure compliance with the ban, ten security guards have been deployed in the area. Furthermore, warning notices have been prominently displayed, informing visitors that violating the ban will result in a fine of 500 rupees.
