Pune Metro commuters have urged authorities to extend metro service hours till midnight to accommodate those working late shifts and ensure they can reach home conveniently. At present, the metro operates from 6am to 11pm.
"The metro is getting an impressive number of passengers even at 11pm... This is really encouraging and strengthens the need for metro service till 12am," a commuter wrote on X (formerly Twitter), sharing pictures of the crowd at night.
Meanwhile, Pune Metro is all set to acquire 12 new train sets, each consisting of three coaches, as the extensions from PCMC to Nigdi and Swargate to Katraj have been approved.
Pune Metro has placed the purchase order for these 12 train sets with Titagarh Rail Systems Limited and Titagarh Firema. These new train sets will be manufactured entirely under the 'Make in India' initiative and, like the existing rakes, will be constructed with aluminium. The total cost of procurement is ₹430.53 crore. The delivery of these trains will take place in phases over the next 30 months.
