The Save Indian Family Foundation (SIFF), a men's rights organisation, observed 'False Case Day' on Saturday, March 8, which marks International Women's Day.
According to SIFF activists, this was done to highlight the "misuse of women-centric laws" in India. "While these laws aim to protect women, they can be exploited for personal gain, perpetuating 'Legal Terrorism'. This campaign exposes the dark side of law misuse, seeking a balanced approach to justice," they added.
On the day, activists gathered in Pimpri-Chinchwad's Wakad and Swargate Chowk in Pune to stage a silent protest. "This protest aimed to raise awareness about the plight of men trapped in false cases and educate them on how to protect themselves," the activists said.
Sagar Gunthal, Counsellor at SIFF, said, "Laws targeting one gender are not laws, but weapons. These laws are exploited by some women to force men to stay in abusive live-in relationships or marriages. Fearing judicial and police harassment, male victims are left with a dire choice: endure abuse or flee the country."
He added that a disturbing trend of male suicides in India has raised alarming concerns about the lack of protection for men's dignity and rights. The recent suicides of Manav Sharma, Atul Subhash and Puneet Khurana are some examples of it, he noted.
