A second-year student of Pune's BJ Medical College died by suicide, officials said on Wednesday.
According to officials from the Bund Garden Police Station, the 21-year-old female student was found hanging in a hostel room on Tuesday night. A suicide note recovered from the scene reportedly reads: "I want to study, but I can't. Forgive me."
The student, identified as Jyoti Krishnakumar Meena, originally from Rajasthan, had been living in Pune for her medical studies.
Police said the deceased had been undergoing psychiatric treatment and was on prescribed medication. Her battle with mental illness dates back to her school years when she was in Class 8.
According to sources, she even shaved her head because of the mental struggle she was going through. Her brother, who lives in Rajasthan, has arrived in Pune after receiving the news.
A police official confirming the details said the investigation is underway.
Earlier, in May this year, an 18-year-old student of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Bhopal allegedly died by suicide in a bathroom at the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) in Pune due to academic stress.

According to the police, the student was identified as Utkarsh Mahadev Shingne, a native of Beed district.
The police said that Utkarsh was among students from multiple colleges across the country who had come to AFMC for a programme.
"The investigation revealed that the deceased student was under academic stress. This may be the reason why he died by suicide in the common bathroom in the AFMC boys’ hostel,” the police added.
They further informed that Utkarsh had sent a purported suicide note on WhatsApp to his family members before allegedly ending his life.
