Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA from Pune's Shivajinagar, Siddharth Shirole, recently attended an important meeting in Mumbai to discuss the CCTV surveillance upgrade in Pune. The meeting was chaired by Yogesh Kadam, Minister of State for Home. This comes after Shirole brought to light the alarming number of non-functional CCTV cameras across Pune City during the 2025 Budget Session in the Assembly.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Shirole said, "In the meeting, I stressed the urgent need for a clear, policy-driven framework for the management and maintenance of the system. A key concern is the lack of defined accountability, resulting in many cameras going offline within a year of installation. This is a serious gap in our urban safety net that must be addressed. I also proposed that CCTV cabling be laid underground to prevent repeated incidents of damage and tampering, and to ensure long-term reliability."

"Minister Kadam assured that a secretary-level coordination committee will be formed to bring together all relevant agencies and formulate a unified policy for robust and sustainable urban surveillance," he added.

"Modern surveillance requires not just technology, but accountability and long-term planning. Pune’s safety deserves nothing less," Shirole concluded.
