Thane: The Thane Traffic Police have announced that towing vans will soon return to service in the city, following a six-month suspension. The service was previously halted after several complaints from motorists and activists, alleging corruption and operational misconduct.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Pankaj Shirsat confirmed on Tuesday that over 20 towing vans have been added to the fleet and will likely be operational by the weekend. The vans will focus on removing illegally parked vehicles, a persistent issue contributing to congestion across Thane and its suburbs, according to The Times Of India report.

According to the report, Shirsat mentioned that “We have now ensured all systems are in place,” he added “, The staff has been trained in public dealing, issued ID cards, and the agency has been strictly instructed to follow appropriate conduct.”

He mentioned that the towing contract had previously been terminated due to several violations, including the lack of mandatory equipment such as CCTV cameras and public address systems. According to the traffic department, disorganised parking continues to obstruct narrow roads, which hinders emergency services in the city.

Metro Line 4 Marks Major Milestone with Overnight Installation of 8 U-Girders at Kapurbawdi Station in Thane

The Mumbai Metro Line 4 (Wadala–Gaimukh) has reached a significant construction milestone with the successful overnight installation of eight U-Girders at Kapurbawdi Station in Thane. This location is a crucial interchange hub connecting with Metro Line 5.

Each U-Girder, weighing 97.92 metric tonnes, was precisely and safely placed on both the up and down lines, covering both the left and right sides. The total weight lifted and installed during the night operation amounted to an impressive 783.36 metric tonnes.

This achievement highlights the project's moving progress and the coordinated effort involved in complex metro construction in densely populated urban areas.
