Thane: Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) workers from Kalyan allegedly assaulted the owner of an idli eatery, reportedly accusing him of making objectionable remarks about Marathi-speaking people. The incident occurred on Friday morning outside the Royal Star Idliwala, located near Durga Mata Mandir in Kalyan East.

Idli Vendor Allegedly Made Derogatory Comments About Marathi-Speaking People

According to initial source reports, the eatery owner—identified only as “Anna”—allegedly used offensive language about Marathi speakers, a recording of derogatory remarks which went viral on social media.

MNS Workers Confront and Assault Eatery Owner Outside Shop

Following the knowledge about an audio clip of Anna, reportedly enraged local MNS office-bearer Ankush Rajput and other party workers, who rushed to the location to confront him.

During the confrontation, the group physically assaulted Anna. When his son attempted to intervene, MNS workers allegedly pushed him aside and started to beat the vendor.

Vendor Forced to Publicly Apologise in Presence of MNS Leaders

Later, in the presence of MNS leaders, the vendor was forced to publicly apologise with folded hands for his alleged remarks anf making a video of apologise. “We (MNS) are not against Hindi, but if anyone insults Marathi speakers, MNS will teach them a lesson,” Rajput said.

Police Aware but No Complaint Filed by Either Party

Hemant Gurav, Senior Police Inspector at Kolsewadi Police Station, told the Free Press Journal that we learned about the assault and apologise act through social Media. However, neither MNS nor Idli Anna approached us to file a complaint in this matter.
