Thane Crime: Anti-Narcotics Cell Arrests 42-Year-Old UP Driver With 3.39 Kg Nepal-Sourced Charas Worth ₹3.39 Crore; Case Registered Under NDPS Act

Thane: The Anti-Narcotics Cell of the Thane Police has arrested a 42-year-old man for allegedly possessing over 3 kilograms of charas, valued at more than ₹3 crore, with the intention of selling it in the Thane area.

Driver from Prayagraj Caught With 3.39 Kg Charas in Thane

The accused, identified as Mohammad Maksood Mohammad Ahmed, a driver by profession, hails from Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh.

Acting on a tip-off, a police team laid a trap near Uthalsar Naka, close to Rasoi Puri Bhaji Vikri Kendra in Thane, on July 31. During the operation, they intercepted the accused and recovered 3.390 kilograms of charas, valued at approximately ₹3.39 crore, from his possession. A panchnama was conducted at the spot, and the accused was taken into custody.

Charas Sourced From Nepal Border for Sale in Mumbai-Thane Region

Amarsingh Jadhav, DCP (Crime), Thane, said, “Preliminary investigation suggests that the accused procured the contraband from the Nepal border and intended to sell it in Thane and Mumbai. During interrogation, it was revealed that he had previously worked as a drug peddler. Efforts are underway to trace the supply chain and identify potential buyers.”

FIR Registered Under NDPS Act; Accused Remanded Till August 4

An FIR was registered against him under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Rabodi Police Station. The accused was produced in court and remanded to police custody until August 4.
