Thane: A 44-year-old sweet shop worker in Kalyan East, Thane district, died after receiving an electric shock from a potato peeling machine. The incident occurred at a sweet shop owned by Ruparam Chaudhary during the busy Shravan festival season.
The deceased, Chandrika Tanku Yadav, had been working at the shop for several years. He was originally from Chandauli village in Uttar Pradesh and resided in Kalyan with his family, as reported by Loksatta.

On Wednesday, while preparing sweets, Yadav attempted to retrieve a plate from the electric potato peeling machine. Upon touching the machine, he suffered a severe electric shock, which threw him a few feet away. He was immediately taken to Rukminibai Hospital by the shop owner and co-workers.
According to the report, although initially responsive to treatment, Yadav’s condition worsened, and he passed away around 3:30 PM on Thursday. Kolsewadi Police have registered an accidental death and are investigating the incident under the guidance of Senior Inspector Hemant Gurav.

In another news from Thane city, an unidentified woman lost her life after jumping off the old Kalwa Bridge into the creek on Tuesday evening.
The Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC) of the Thane Municipal Corporation reported receiving information about the incident. “We dispatched one fire tender, a rescue vehicle, and a pickup to the spot. She was pulled out of the water and rushed to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital in Kalwa, where doctors declared her dead on arrival,” an RDMC official said.
Senior Police Inspector Ashok Utekar of Kalwa Police Station confirmed that efforts are underway to identify the woman. “We have circulated her photographs across police stations in Thane and Mumbai. As of now, her identity remains unknown. Our team is also checking missing person reports across various stations,” he said.
