Mira-Bhayandar: In a crime no less than the movie script of Ranveer Singh-starrer-Ladies v/s Ricky Bahl- the crime detection unit attached to the Valiv police nabbed a "Casanova Con" who would pose as a cyber security officer attached to the New Delhi Crime Branch on a well-known matrimonial site to deceive and exploit aspiring brides.
The accused who has been identified as Himanshu Yogeshbhai Panchal (26) was arrested from his hometown in Ahmedabad (Gujarat).
About The Case
The action followed in response to a complaint filed by a woman who stated that she came into contact with the accused on the platform of a well-known match making site last year.
Under the false promise of marriage, the accused who introduced himself as cyber security officer posted in the crime branch of the New Delhi police, met the complainant and took her to various lodges where he sexually exploited her on multiple occasions. To gain her trust, he gifted fake diamond sets while creating an impression that they were genuine. In exchange the woman not only gave him expensive presents but also extended financial help.
However, after sometime the accused went incommunicado, following which the woman registered a complaint at the Valiv police station early this month. An offence under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita for rape and cheating was registered against the accused. Personnel from the crime detection unit on the virtue of electronic surveillance learnt about Panchal’s presence in Gujarat.

The team immediately left for Gujarat and arrested him from the Janakpur area in Ahmedabad with the help of their local counterparts. The accused confessed to his crime and prima facie investigations revealed his involvement in nearly a dozen similar offences, so far.
Urging users of matrimonial websites to exercise caution, DCP (Zone II) Pournima Chougule Shringi, said “There is a need to be extremely careful before getting committed through these platforms. Conducting thorough background checks and involving family members in the decision-making process is crucial.”
Not ruling out Panchal’s involvement in more cases across the country, a special team from the Valiv police station is trying to collect information about other women who have been cheated by him.
