Palghar News: Woman Relative Arrested For ₹50 Lakh Theft, Used Fake Beard Disguise In Vasai

Palghar: In a shocking twist to a recent daylight robbery in Vasai, police have arrested a female relative of the elderly victim for allegedly stealing gold and silver ornaments worth approximately ₹50 lakh. The accused reportedly used a fake beard as a disguise to commit the crime at the victim's residence.

The complainant, Odhavji Khimji Bhanushali (66), a businessman residing in Kishore Kunj Apartment, Shastri Nagar, was targeted around 1:30 pm on Monday, August 11.

According to the complaint filed with Manikpur Police later that evening, the accused, allegedly a relative, entered the house in disguise, wearing a fake beard to pass off as a man, and claimed she needed to use the bathroom. Once inside, she reportedly locked Bhanushali in the bathroom, unlocked a bedroom showcase with a key, and made off with 50–55 tolas (about 583–641 grams) of gold jewellery and approximately 1 kg of silver ornaments, together valued at around ₹50 lakh.

Manikpur Police Station has registered a case under Sections 305(a) (house-trespass or house-breaking in order to commit offence punishable with imprisonment), 127(2) (abetment if person abetted commits an offence with different intention), and 309(6) (voluntarily causing grievous hurt) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023.

Police have confirmed the arrest of the accused relative, and further efforts are underway in the ongoing investigation.
