Navi Mumbai: In a citizen-friendly initiative, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has begun the doorstep distribution of property tax bills for the financial year 2025–26 through registered women from Self-Help Groups (SHGs). The distribution drive commenced on May 23, with the goal of simplifying tax payment procedures and encouraging digitalization.
These women representatives, appointed on a part-time basis by NMMC, have been issued temporary ID cards and authorized to access residential societies, government colonies, and private housing complexes to hand over the tax bills. Along with the bill distribution, they are tasked with collecting updated information from property owners or tenants — including the full name, active mobile number, and email ID of the property holder.
Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Dr. Kailas Shinde has appealed to all citizens to cooperate with the SHG members and assist in this digital information update. “This initiative ensures citizens won’t need to visit any municipal office for tax-related matters. With updated contact details, property owners will receive bills, payment reminders, and other notices directly on their mobile phones,” said Dr. Shinde.
The data collected will be integrated into the NMMC’s digital system, paving the way for smoother communication and efficient service delivery in the future. The corporation has also requested residents to treat the SHG women with respect and extend full support to ensure the success of this initiative.
