Following an incident in which an advocate from Mira Road was duped in Belapur by a self-proclaimed tantrik who promised to double his money through black magic, the Maharashtra Andhashraddha Nirmoolan Samiti (MANS) has announced a public awareness camp to combat rising superstition-related frauds in Navi Mumbai.

The fraudulent incident is among several recent cases where fear and superstition are being used to deceive people. "In another instance, lemons and chilies were allegedly placed in the premises of the Belapur Court, seemingly to create an atmosphere of fear and anxiety among the superstitious," said Rajeev Deshpande from MANS.

Anti-Superstition Act Invoked by MANS

Condemning these acts, MANS stated that such attempts to create panic fall under punishable offenses as per the Anti-Superstition and Black Magic Act. The organization has urged citizens not to fall prey to such tactics and to report such incidents to the police without hesitation.

Awareness Workshop Announced for August 24

In response, the Belapur-Nerul branch of MANS will organize a one-day anti-superstition workshop on Sunday, August 24, at the Comrade B.T. Randive Library in Agroli, Belapur. The camp will present a scientific perspective on topics such as black magic, possession, witchcraft, fraudulent godmen, and supposed miracles. It will also provide information on the relevant provisions of the anti-superstition law.

Campaign Against Exploitation Through Fear

MANS has appealed to citizens to register for the workshop before August 15 and join the movement to build a rational and fear-free society.
