Mumbai: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested a female sub-inspector while launching a search for a constable who fled with Rs 25,000, part of a bribe allegedly demanded by the officer.
Sub-inspector Jayshree Londe, of the V B Nagar police station, had been investigating a case involving a complainant and his friend. During the inquiry, she reportedly demanded Rs 1 lakh in bribe money in exchange for a favourable outcome in the case, as reported by Hindustan Times.

Following negotiations, the amount was first reduced to Rs 50,000, and the complainant paid Rs 15,000 as the first instalment. From August 4, Londe allegedly began pressuring the complainant to pay the remaining Rs 35,000, which was again negotiated down to Rs 25,000.
Unwilling to proceed with the payment, the complainant approached the ACB, which then conducted a preliminary investigation to verify the demand for the bribe.
According to police, "A constable working under Londe by the name Jayprakash Mali accompanied the complainant’s relative to his house to get the bribe for the sub-inspector," police officer also added, "He took it but suspected that something was amiss and fled with the cash, " as reported.
The ACB has since registered a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act against Londe, who has been taken into custody. The constable remains absconding.
