Mumbai: The sessions court has refused to grant bail to 42-year-old lawyer Vinay Khatu, booked for allegedly cheating his client, 74-year-old Urmila Talyarkhan, of Rs 2.3 crore with a fake Bombay High Court order. The court observed he already has two cases against him, wherein he allegedly cheated people posing as an IAS officer.
As per the prosecution, Khatu was looking after 12 cases and property matters for Talyarkhan, a resident of New Delhi. She claimed that despite obtaining funds, Khatu failed to file a suit, following which she sought advice from another lawyer who told her that the order copies given by Khatu in her other cases were fabricated.
She claimed that Khatu had given copies of the order, which he claimed was passed on the appeals filed by him. However, when she checked the website, she found there was not a single hearing held on her petitions. Hence, she lodged a complaint against him.
