The alert covers Mumbai, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg and parts of Goa, where continuous downpours have raised the risk of flooding in low-lying areas.

Mumbai woke up to yet another rain-soaked Sunday, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a flash flood alert for the Konkan region, including the city and its suburbs. The alert covers Mumbai, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg and parts of Goa, where continuous downpours have raised the risk of flooding in low-lying areas.
In its latest advisory, the IMD warned of moderate to high flash flood risk in several watersheds and neighbourhoods till 11:30 am on Sunday, citing saturated soil and ongoing heavy rain. Officials cautioned that surface runoff and inundation could disrupt daily life, urging residents to remain vigilant.
Rainfall has been relentless across Mumbai. Between 8 am Saturday and 8 am Sunday, the city recorded 92.81 mm of rain, with the western suburbs taking the heaviest hit at 103.98 mm, followed by the eastern suburbs at 78.15 mm. Santacruz logged 24 cm on Saturday alone, while Colaba saw 8 cm.
The IMD has also predicted heavy to very heavy showers across Mumbai city and suburbs, accompanied by gusty winds of 40–50 kmph, reaching up to 60 kmph in some parts. More intense spells are likely in Konkan, Goa and the Ghats of Madhya Maharashtra between 16–19 August, while heavy rains are expected to persist across Maharashtra, Goa and Gujarat through the week.
Adding to concerns, the city is bracing for high tides. Mumbai witnessed a 3.32-metre tide early Sunday morning, with an even higher 3.54-metre tide forecast for 7:55 am on Monday. Low tides of 1.25 metres and 2.43 metres are also expected during the day.
With waterlogging already reported in several pockets, civic authorities have kept emergency teams on standby. Citizens have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel, especially in flood-prone area
