Mumbai News: Police Shut Down Illegal Fun Fair By BJP Leader Prashant Maurya At Chandivali's Meenatai Thackeray Ground After BMC Denies Permission
After six of the fun fair running illegally on the Meenatai Thackeray in Chandivali, the Mumbai police shut down the fair. The workers were seen removing all the items from the ground on Saturday. The Free Press Journal had reported in its May 3 edition that the fair, which was organised by local BJP leader Prashant Maurya, was running despite the BMC ward office denying permission.

Mumbai: After six of the fun fair running illegally on the Meenatai Thackeray in Chandivali, the Mumbai police shut down the fair. The workers were seen removing all the items from the ground on Saturday. The Free Press Journal had reported in its May 3 edition that the fair, which was organised by local BJP leader Prashant Maurya, was running despite the BMC ward office denying permission.
The fair had started on April 27 was planned to run till May 6, as per the posters. The Chandivali citizens had been complaining against the blatant violations of rules, lack of governance and also cited security threat considering the fair had hundreds of people visiting with no police security on the ground at the time when the city and the country in on an high alert.
Maurya had sought permission to run the fair at the 1200 sq m big Meenatai Thackeray ground, which is reserved as a playground. The BMC L ward office had denied permission following BMC rules which states that playgrounds should be totally available for children to play during summer vacations (April 15 to June 15) and no other activities can be allowed to run.
As per the April 28 letter by the BMC L ward's assistant municipal commissioner to Senior Police Inspector of Saki Naka police station, the police was asked to take immediate action against. However, by May 2 there was no police action initiated.
Speaking with the Free Press Journal, Senior Police Inspector of Saki Naka police station said that they never received the copy of letter by L ward office.
"The garden officer from the L ward came to the police station on Friday asking why police did not take action. We never received any letter. The garden officer said that the letter was posted. Important letters needs be delivered through the staff which delivers letters to police station daily. However, we took action and shut down the fair on Friday evening."
