A petition has been filed in the High Court seeking permission to hold Eid prayers on June 7 at the iconic August Kranti Maidan in Mumbai. In response, Maharashtra Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha has strongly opposed the plea and urged the Mumbai Police Commissioner to reject it.

The Minister emphasized the historical importance of the ground, which is a symbol of India’s independence movement. Sharing his stance on social media, Lodha said: “A petition has been filed in the High Court seeking permission to hold Eid prayers at August Kranti Maidan on June 7 — a site that holds profound historical significance as a symbol of India’s freedom struggle.I have formally urged the Commissioner of Mumbai Police to reject this request. Allowing such an event at this sacred ground would deeply undermine its legacy. Even such an application is a shame — forget about considering it!”

August Kranti Maidan, also known as Gowalia Tank Maidan, is historically associated with the Quit India Movement of 1942. Minister Lodha insisted that any event compromising its sanctity should not be permitted.
