The Bombay High court has granted bail to a Kenyan national, who is said to be mentally unwell, in the case of stabbing eight pedestrians in 2022. The court passed the order noting the man's mental condition, delay in commencement of trial and overcrowding in prisons.
As per the prosecution, on June 1, 2022, when the complainant was crossing the road, Geoffrey Kimuyu stabbed him on his shoulder and his face. Likewise, he attacked seven other passers-by, the prosecution added. Defense lawyer Munira Palanpurwala argued that the accused was mentally unwell and was also admitted to Regional Mental Hospital, Thane, for treatment.
Granting bail, the HC pointed out that Kimuyu has been in prison for more than two years without trial.
