The Shivaji Nagar Police have registered a case against former Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) corporator Mohammad Siraj Iqbal Shaikh. After joining the Samajwadi Party, Shaikh reportedly organized an unauthorized motorcycle rally with a large crowd, during which firecrackers were burst at several locations and various slogans were shouted. The rally caused a disruption in traffic on the busy Ghatkopar-Mankhurd Link Road, leading to a case being filed against him.
According to the FIR, on the evening of June 15 at around 5:45 PM, Siraj Shaikh, a local resident and former corporator, organized a motorbike rally without prior permission, to announce his entry into the Samajwadi Party. The rally began at the Indian Oil Nagar junction, where Shaikh was seen standing on an open jeep (PB 47 D 1562) along with party workers.
Around 300 people, including Sheikh's supporters and motorcyclists, marched from the Indian Oil Nagar junction to Bainganwadi Junction via the Ghatkopar-Mankhurd Link Road. From there, they proceeded past the Bainganwadi police chowki and took the Baji Prabhu Deshpande Road to Road No. 4 in Shivaji Nagar. At the destination, a stage was set up where Shaikh was welcomed and felicitated by his supporters.
During the rally, the group stopped at multiple locations along the road to burst firecrackers and chant various slogans. This led to a traffic jam and temporary closure of the Ghatkopar-Mankhurd Link Road.
In response to the disruptions caused, the Shivaji Nagar Police registered a case against Mohammad Siraj Sheikh and the owner of the jeep under sections 126 and 223 of the Bhartiy Nyay Sanhita (BNS) Act, along with sections 37(1)(D) and 37(3) of the Maharashtra Police Act.
