Mumbai News: Ferry Develops Leak Near Mandwa, 130 Passengers Rescued Safely

Mumbai: A major mishap was averted near Mandwa Jetty on Thursday evening when a passenger ferry operated by Ajantha Company developed a hole mid-sea due to strong waves, causing water to enter the boat.
According to officials, the incident occurred around 5:30 PM, shortly after the ferry departed from the Gateway of India, Mumbai, en route to Mandwa with 130 passengers on board. The fibre boat encountered rough sea conditions about 1 to 1.5 km from Mandwa Jetty. A large wave reportedly hit the vessel, resulting in a breach in its hull.
As water began entering the boat, passengers and crew quickly alerted authorities at Mandwa Jetty via phone. Speedboats were immediately dispatched, and all 130 passengers were safely evacuated and brought ashore without any injuries.
The Ajantha Company’s ferry was also towed safely to Mandwa Jetty. Local authorities have confirmed the incident and commended the swift response that prevented a potential tragedy. An investigation is underway to assess the ferry’s condition and ensure future safety measures.
