Mumbai: Following an inspection of several commercial establishments at Kamala Mills compound in Lower Parel, the BMC on Tuesday demolished unauthorised structures at 'Living Liquidz', revoking both its restaurant licenses. The premises, approved for a garment and tailoring shop, had been illegally converted into a bar, wine shop and dining space on the ground and first floor.
BMC Acts Against ‘Living Liquidz’ Over Illegal Conversions
After receiving complaints about unauthorised constructions, encroachments, and illegal eateries at the IT park in Kamala Mills, the BMC carried out site inspections last week. As part of its ongoing enforcement drive, the BMC carried out a joint inspection of ‘Living Liquidz’ (Mumbai Wines and Traders) in Kamala Mills in the past two days.
"The inspection revealed multiple serious violations, including the illegal conversion of spaces originally approved for garment and tailoring shops on the ground and first floors into a restaurant, bar, and wine shop. The irregularities also included construction in open areas in violation of FSI norms, unauthorised roofing on the terrace, illegal internal partitions, unauthorised conversion of space into a cold storage unit, alterations to door layouts, and the erection of wooden and glass walls," said a senior civic official.
Stop-Work Notice Issued; Joint Inspection Reveals Multiple Violations
Based on the site inspection the BMC issued a stop-work notice to them on Monday. The demolition action was carried out by the officials and staff from the BMC’s Health, Building & Factory, and Building Proposal departments, along with the State Excise Department.
Licences Revoked for Endangering Public Safety Without Fire NOC
Additionally, the BMC revoked both of its restaurant licenses for illegally expanding the commercial space and operating in a manner that endangered public safety without obtaining the mandatory fire safety certificate.
