Mumbai News: BMC Demolishes 56 Illegal And Overextended Stalls Near CSMT, Manish Market And GPO Amid Pedestrian Complaints
In a stern action against hawkers encroaching footpaths, the BMC on Wednesday demolished a total of 56 stalls in areas including Manish Market, government post office and St George lane near CSMT. The actions were taken after repeated complaints on hawkers occupying pedestrians space, causing traffic issues.

Mumbai: In a stern action against hawkers encroaching footpaths, the BMC on Wednesday demolished a total of 56 stalls in areas including Manish Market, government post office and St George lane near CSMT.
The actions were taken after repeated complaints on hawkers occupying pedestrians space, causing traffic issues, the senior BMC inspector from A ward said.
The action began on Wednesday morning, when 25 unauthorised stalls near Manish Market - from Saboo Siddique Road to Curnac Bunder were demolished. The stalls included of readymade garments and cutlery, which were running without licences.
Later in the day, 20 stalls opposite Government Post Office (GPO) and 11 from St George lane were demolished. "This hawkers were authorised, however had expanded their stalls from permitted 1x1 mtr to upto 4x4 mt. They were occupying footpaths and causing inconvenience to the public," the senior inspector said. The hawkers are allowed to run their stalls within the permitted space.
