Police registers case against the 30-year-old man on June 14

A 30-year-old auto-rickshaw driver has surrendered before the Sahar Police in connection with the death of a 60-year-old man in a road accident. The driver had fled the scene following the incident. The Police registered the case on June 14.

According to the FIR, the accident took place around 8 am on June 9 on the northbound stretch of Andheri-Kurla Road, near Metro Station No 4. Upon receiving information, police rushed to the spot and took the injured man to Cooper Hospital, where he was declared dead.

CCTV footage revealed that the deceased had been seen in the area near the metro station for the past two to three days, reportedly begging for food.

The day after the accident, a man identified as Sahebrao Shaikh, a resident of Belapur, approached the police. He admitted that a man had suddenly crossed the road and collided with his auto-rickshaw, causing him to fall. Afraid, he fled the scene. When police showed him photographs of the deceased, he confirmed the identification. By then, police had also located an eyewitness.

Shaikh was booked under Section 106 (causing death by negligence) and other relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita on Saturday.
