Mumbai: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has announced significant progress on two major infrastructure projects in the city, the Vikhroli flyover and the Gopalkrishna Gokhale Bridge in Andheri.
According to the latest updates, 95 per cent of the Vikhroli flyover has been completed, with work progressing on both the eastern and western sides of the bridge, including the railway boundary and solid approach roads. However, a few critical tasks remain, including the completion of three spans of the bridge near St. Joseph’s School on the western side.

The work on these spans requires the laying of the ‘deck slab,’ which poses engineering challenges. The BMC expects to complete this task by May 31, 2025. In addition to this, final touches such as crash barriers, soundproofing walls, painting, thermoplastic, cat eyes, electric poles, and directional signs are in the final stages of work. The goal is to open the Vikhroli flyover to the public before the monsoon season.
In Andheri, the Gopalkrishna Gokhale Bridge, an important link connecting the East and West sides of the locality, has reached full completion. The main work, including the railway boundary, up-and-down roads, and the connector to the C. Barfiwala Bridge, has been finished.

The BMC plans to open the bridge to traffic in coordination with the traffic police by the end of April 2025.
Additional Municipal Commissioner (Projects), Abhijit Bangar, conducted an inspection of both projects alongside Chief Engineer (Bridges), Mr. Ut Tam Shrote, and officers from the Road Department and Traffic Police.
