Mumbai: A 9-year-old girl from Surat, who once lay in a coma due to liver failure, is now smiling and painting again. Her recovery was made possible by a life-saving liver transplant, her mother's support, and the efforts of doctors at KEM Hospital.

The recent journey of a 9-year-old girl has been nothing short of miraculous. Her story is a powerful testament to courage, medical expertise, and a mother’s love. Thanks to a liver donation from her mother and the skill of doctors at KEM Hospital, the child has been given a new lease on life.

Mother Donates Liver To Save Daughter's Life

According to KEM Hospital, the girl—who hails from Surat—fell seriously ill all of a sudden. Her eyes turned yellow, her stomach became swollen, and her condition deteriorated rapidly until she slipped into a coma. Doctors confirmed that a liver transplant was the only option. Without hesitation, her mother volunteered to donate a portion of her liver to save her daughter.

Girl Diagnosed With Rare Wilson’s Disease, Slips Into Coma

According to a senior doctor from the Gastroenterology Department at KEM, the girl was suffering from Wilson’s disease—a rare condition that led to the failure of her liver. With her life hanging by a thread, a liver transplant became critical.

KEM Hospital Performs Life-Saving Transplant In 24 Hours

Since KEM is a government-designated center for the treatment of rare diseases, the family received financial support for the transplant within 24 hours. The surgery was successfully performed by Dr. Chetan Kantharia, head of Gastroenterology Surgery and liver transplant surgeon, along with his team.

Under the care of Dr. Akash Shukla, Head of the Gastroenterology Department and his medical team, the girl's recovery began. One of the most heartwarming moments came when she created five beautiful paintings while still in the ICU—touching the hearts of everyone involved in her care.

Now fully recovered, the 9-year-old is excited to return to school and continue living the life that was so selflessly saved.
