Mumbai: In a shocking incident in Mazgaon, a 53-year-old cosmetic goods vendor, Mohammad Aslam Patel, was brutally attacked with an iron rod by an unidentified individual in the early hours of June 5. The incident occurred around 1:45 a.m., while Patel was traveling on his two-wheeler. He sustained serious head injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at Saifee Hospital.
According to the complaint filed by Assistant Police Sub-Inspector (ASI) Uday Vichare, 57, from Byculla Police Station, he was on duty along with other personnel in the Byculla Mobile 5 patrol vehicle when they received information about an injured motorcyclist lying on the inner side of Bhagwan Adinath Marg.
Upon reaching the spot, the police team identified the victim as Mohammad Aslam Patel. An investigation at the scene revealed that he had been assaulted with an iron rod, which was found lying nearby. Patel had sustained severe injuries to his head.
The police immediately rushed the injured victim to JJ Hospital for initial treatment. His family later shifted him to Saifee Hospital for further care, said police officials.
Patel, a resident of Evergreen Apartments on Belvedere Road in Mazgaon, is involved in the business of selling cosmetic products. Preliminary investigations point to a possible business-related dispute as the motive behind the attack.
The Byculla Police have launched a manhunt for the attacker and are reviewing CCTV footage and other evidence from the area to gather leads. A case has been registered, under section 109 of Bhartiy Nyay Sanhita (BNS), and further investigation is underway.
