18-year-old crashes into pregnant woman’s Mercedes near Coastal Road tunnel; booked for rash driving | FPJ

Mumbai: An 18-year-old driver crashed into a pregnant woman's car on the night of July 13, at 10:50 pm, near Gate No. 08 of the Coastal Road northbound tunnel.

A case has been registered at Malabar Hill Police Station against for rash driving that resulted in the collision, which was driven by a pregnant businesswoman.

According to the FIR filed under sections 281 and 125(A) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the accused has been identified as Om Manish Poddar, a resident of Bhuleshwar, Mumbai. A summon has been issued to him under Section 35(3) BNSA to appear for further investigation.

The complainant, Sonam Babani (33), was driving home from Marine Drive to Prabhadevi in her Mercedes when, near Gate No. 08 of the Coastal Road tunnel, the accused, driving a Honda City, allegedly rammed into her car from behind due to negligent and reckless driving. Sonam Babani, a businesswoman who is eight months pregnant, fortunately not sustained any injury in the collision.

Police officials have confirmed that the accused possessed a valid driving license. His blood samples were collected and sent for examination to determine whether he was under the influence of any intoxicating substances at the time of the accident. The case is under further investigation.
