In a bid to integrate Mumbai Metro Line 6 with Metro Line 3, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has proposed the construction of a pedestrian foot over bridge (FOB). The FOB will connect the elevated SEEPZ station of Metro Line 6 with the at-grade Aarey station of the underground Metro Line 3, crossing over the Jogeshwari Vikroli Link Road (JVLR). The bridge will be 250 meters long.
MMRDA plans to allocate Rs 43.41 crore for the construction of this FOB. The authority has begun the process of appointing a contractor for the project, and interested contractors can submit their applications by April 28. The selected contractor will be required to complete the construction of the bridge within 15 months of receiving the contract. According to the tender terms, the contractor will also be responsible for repairing any defects in the bridge for up to five years after its completion. The FOB will have five entry, exit points and equipped with CCTV Cameras and escalators or lifts.
The construction of the 14.5 km Metro 6 corridor, which runs between Swami Samarth Nagar and Vikroli, is currently underway, with over 80 per cent of the civil work already completed. MMRDA is overseeing the development of this line, and the construction of the FOB is part of its plan to ensure smooth pedestrian movement between the two metro lines.
Meanwhile, the underground Metro Line 3 corridor, running from Aarey to Colaba, is being developed by the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (MMRCL). Service has already commenced on the Metro 3 stretch between Aarey and BKC, and MMRCL is conducting trial runs on the stretch between Dharavi and Acharya Aatre Marg. Full-service operation is expected to begin on this section soon, with the entire route upto Colaba planned to open by July this year.
