Lok Sabha MP Ravindra Waikar from Mumbai North West constituency raised the issue of a uniform law and salary for the country’s approximately 10 lakh ASHA workers during Zero Hour in the Lok Sabha. Waikar demanded that the central government implement a uniform policy and salary structure for ASHA workers across India.

Demands for ASHA Workers

Waikar highlighted the key demands made by ASHA workers, which include:

Implementation of a uniform salary structure with a fixed monthly salary.

Inclusion under social security schemes, including provident fund and pension benefits.

Provision of health and life insurance coverage for ASHA workers and their families.

Granting of official employee status to ASHA workers instead of treating them as volunteers.

Struggles of ASHA Workers

Waikar pointed out that ASHA workers have been tirelessly serving the rural population since 2005 by providing essential healthcare services. Despite their selfless work, they have been largely neglected by the government and have had to fight for their rights. He assured ASHA workers that he would continue to raise their concerns in Parliament and press for central government intervention.

Need for Government Action

Waikar emphasized that while ASHA workers care for the health of the entire population, their own health and future remain uncertain. He urged the government to consider their long-standing demands and ensure they lead a life of dignity and security. With nearly 10 lakh ASHA workers serving across the country, Waikar’s appeal for a uniform policy and fair compensation is expected to bring much-needed relief to these frontline workers.
